Owner, Josh Grimmer, shares a bit about the event for his new business:

“My Good Neighbor is a non-profit lawn maintenance start-up that provides professional development for immigrant and refugee youth while working with eco-friendly practices and carbon-zero tools. We are partnering with our friends at CLAMS improv comedy group to host an awesome night of comedy, beer, musical comedy, nachos. All profits from the event goes to My Good Neighbor and will fund future projects for the good of the Earth and the development of immigrant/refugee youth.

MGN has had many successes this year and has been able to pour significant income and development into refugee and immigrant youth already, on top of providing great service and playing a small role as an eco-friendly business. In order to do more good, MGN needs funding to create multi-lingual training modules for the development of our youth, and to make several large equipment purchases to continue the work and develop services.

About MGN: Not long ago, I (Josh) used to work on a maintenance crew at a state park. While there, I loved being outside and taking care of the wild landscape, but I hated how much waste and thoughtlessness went into our daily practices. Everyday, we piled into the huge gas-guzzler truck with fuming, leaking equipment. We cut back the forest and scalped the lawns with our oil mowers in the name of "beautifying" the natural landscape. We owe more dignity to our planet, and caring for our natural landscapes should first do no harm. Years later, I worked at a non-profit as a mentor for immigrant and refugee youth. I became frustrated with how many hard-working kids could never seem to find a job. Tragically, I watched well-deserving students who desperately needed work get passed up for opportunities every summer. Unfortunately, there are few business that see the value in investing into some of the hardest-working people in our society. While I was cutting my neighbor's lawn one day, it occurred to me that something could be done about both of these issues right here in my neighborhood. My Good Neighbor launched in the spring of 2019, and has already poured thousands of dollars back into our neighborhood, thanks to the many satisfied customers of MGN.

About CLAMS: CLAMS is a long form improv group of hilarious best friends that delights in exploring the depths of the fun and the absurd.

About Mayfly: Mayfly is an amazing bar and taproom that recently opened in Kenton, North Portland. Mayfly is a huge supporter of the community and regularly hosts fun trivia nights and is a well-loved neighborhood gathering place with impressive brews and amazing service.

About Joshua Grimmer, stand-up comedy debutant: Josh is doing his first public comedy standup routine. Josh is trusting that you will have enough beer for it to be funny. Seriously, drink all of the beers.”
